Amma on chair massage comes from the traditional Amma (or Amna), which means “Calm with the hands” in Japanese. It is the oldest form of massage in Japan, and was practiced by the blind people. On site massage was developed by David Palmer in the 1980s to relieve the aches and pains of engineers in Silicon Valley (USA) and improve their productivity.
It is a preventive and corrective technique based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupressure and relaxation techniques. It rapidly relieves physical pain, restores emotional balance and energizes the individual.
The massage is done on the upper body of the person who keeps dressed and seated comfortably on an ergonomic chair.
The session lasts 30 minutes and consists of a series of precise movements following the meridians and acupuncture points (with stretching, pressure, percussion and vibration) on the back, neck, head, shoulders and arms.
